Contents
Per 25/100 mg tab Carbidopa 25 mg, levodopa 100 mg. Per 25/250 mg tab Carbidopa 25 mg, levodopa 250 mg
Dosage/Direction for Use
Patient not previously taking levodopa Initially 1 tab of 25/100 mg tds. Patient previously taking levodopa Initially 1 tab of 25/100 mg or 25/250 mg tds or qds.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Avoid taking w/ a heavy meal & high protein diet.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ skin cancer or unusual moles that have not been examined; narrow-angle glaucoma; severe mental disorder. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs. Stop taking MAOIs at least 2 wk before starting Carbidopa & Levodopa Teva. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ history of convulsions; history of duodenal or peptic ulcer or patients who have vomited blood; patients w/ history of heart attack, heart beat problems, circulation or breathing problems; history of kidney, liver or hormonal problems; history of depression or other mental problems; chronic wide-angle glaucoma; patients w/ sudden sleep attacks or patients who sometimes feel very sleepy; patients due to have surgery. Observe patients for addiction-like symptoms & impulse control disorders. Can affect some lab tests on blood or urine samples. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Not suitable for childn <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Abnormal movements eg, twitching or spasms; nausea. Fainting, anorexia, high BP; inflammation of the veins, vomiting, diarrhoea, discoloration of urine, sweat or saliva; on-off phenomenon; dizziness; sleepiness, pins & needles; dream abnormalities, confusion, feeling agitated, shortness of breath, hair loss. Dyskinesias, mood swings; impulse control disorders.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ medicines for Parkinson's disease containing levodopa; medicines for mental problems (including depression), TB, high BP, muscle spasms, epilepsy or other diseases related to involuntary movements; medicines to treat low Fe; MAOIs; anticholinergics (eg, orphenadrine, trihexyphenidyl, benzatropine & procyclidine); phenytoin; papaverine. Avoid taking tab w/ a heavy meal. If diet contains too much protein (meat, eggs, milk, cheese) Carbidopa & Levodopa Teva may not work as well as it should.
